Emile GRILLOT DE GIVRY — ANTHOLOGIE DE L'OCCULTISME (ANTHOLOGY OF OCCULTISM) — TRUE 1st Edition / 1st Printing, 1922 Softcover WITH PRINTING ERRORS AND UNCUT PAGES — MAGIC WITCHCRAFT HERMETIC ALCHEMY OCCULT ANCIENT MYSTERY SCHOOLS
Publisher: Aux Editions De La Sirene, Paris (1922)
Scarce first edition, in French, of de Givry's ANTHOLOGIE DE L'OCCULTISME (Anthology of Occultism) in very good condition. This 1922 tome served as the basis of, and as a complement to, the very famous illustrated 1929 PICTURE MUSEUM OF SORCERERS, MAGIC, AND ALCHEMISTS, which he wrote to appeal to a wider audience. In ANTHOLOGY OF OCCULTISM, De Givry offers a "choice of the best pages of the authors who have distinguished themselves in the hermetic sciences, from ancient times to the present day" (as well as regions and beliefs). It's a very dense academic work, with topics from the Ancient Egyptians and Hindus to the Alchemists to Roger Bacon and Eliphas Levi covered in its 417 pages. The softcover wraps and binding are solid and tight save for light shelfwear and minor chipping. The pages are crisp and clean save for previous owner's signature on the front cover and the top of the first preface page. The title page and second preface page has been double printed or stamped, indicating the the pages were hand-fed through a printer, and not mass produced. Over half of the hand-cut book pages have remained UNCUT. Rare, true first edition, first printing in the original language of a most notable occult author for your collection.
