At the Sign of the Reine Pedauque, by Anatole France — Translated by Mrs. Wilfrid Jackson, with Illustrations and Decorations by Frank C. Pape, 1926

Publisher: John Lane and the Bodley Head Limited, London (1926)

1926 edition of Anatole France's AT THE SIGN OF THE REINE PEDAUQUE, with beautiful engraved illustrations by Frank C. Pape. In overall very good condition. The boards are solid and tight, save for some wear to the spine and light shelf wear. The pages and engraved illustrations are crisp and clean save for an inscription on the front inside board and ex-libris stamp on first blank page. Very light foxing on the second page, and two spots of very light foxing on the title page. Small staining to the top fore-edge on some of the plates. The historical novel was originally written in 1892 and published the following year; it tells of the tribulations of the young Jacques Menetrier at the beginning of the 18th century. Its most important source is the 17th-century occult text "Comte de Gabalis."
