Book Details + Condition: Frederick J. Drake & Company (Chicago). First Edition, 1902. This scarce First Edition was the precursor to the more well known de Laurence Company's 1908 publication. Illustrated with b&w photographs. 261 pages, followed with an Index. An overall firm and clean copy of a very scarce edition: binding remains firm; normal wear to boards, with some darkening and fading; slight lean to book; rubbed corners and edges; interior is clean and free of markings. By Lauron William de Laurence (1868 - 1936), renowned book pirate, plagiarist, and publisher of occult literature. While this volume is similar to De Laurence's "Hypnotism, A Complete System of Method Application and Use" (1900) it is a separate work, and longer. De Laurence was notorious for taking other people's works and reissuing them under his own name (sometimes re-titling them in the process). Despite his eccentricities, de Laurence played an important part in the occult history of the US: he was a pioneer in selling occult books and supplies by mail order, and the cheap "Pow Wow" books and other books of simple magic which he published were well received.
