Raymond was a true Victorian-era Renaissance man, a mining engineer who helped revolutionize the industry, and an attorney and scholar as well as an author in many different genres. This book is a fantastical collection of stories - the moon playing hooky at new moon and knocking on a door to tell stories, a temporarily drowned man and his adventures at the bottom of the sea, and wild animated toys amongst many others, accompanied by a number of often equally fantastical illustration plates. Overall a worn but solid and nearly clean copy, with significant wear to boards and rubbed corners and edges; fraying to spine ends; rubbing and discoloration to boards; child's name in old pencil to endpaper; periodic foxing throughout; number in yellow marker on top of Illustrations page.
