Very scarce first edition of MOLLY AND KITTY, OR PEASANT LIFE IN IRELAND from 1856, in well preserved condition. The engraved and gilt boards and binding are solid and tight save for light shelfwear. The pages are crisp and clean save for some light foxing on the first three pages and a few spots of foxing near the borders on some of the pages and illustrations. The book has three Irish folktale children's stories by Olga Eschenbach and Maria Burg, with six beautiful mid-19th century chromolithograph plates. Contents include: Molly and Kitty by Olga Eschenbach; The Young Artist by Maria Young; and Benevolence and Gratitude by Olga Eschenbach.
