FLOWER PICTURES by Elise Polko, Translated from the German by S.W. Lander — First Edition 1861; German Children's Novelist — With Woodcut Illustrations
Publisher: D. Appleton and Company, New York (1861)
In near fine or excellent condition. Embossed boards with gilt decorations and lettering. The boards are solid, tight and very well preserved with only slight shelf-wear and paste-down (from the Garden Center of Greater Cleveland) to inside boards. The pages and 11 woodcut illustrations are crisp and clean, save for a mark on the copyright page and erased pencil mark on second blank page. A wonderful children's story about the meanings and symbolism of flowers, as explained from a mid-19th century perspective. A beautiful and rare find!
