Book Details + Condition: Scarce first edition from 1930 of "Told in the Gloaming" by Gladys Peto. Original cloth-backed boards, titles and design to board in black, pictorial paper over boards. Folio 11'' x 8''. Contains 192 printed pages of text with 8 wonderfully distinctive full-page color plates, as well as monochrome illustrations to every page, some of which have been lightly colored. Moderate wear on the board's extremities in a solid and tight binding. Previous owner's inscription on the inside front board with foxing on the title page and a small portion of the frontis. All other pages crisp and clean, save for a very few spots of foxing at the fore-edges. Please see pictures.
Gladys Peto (1890-1977) was a well known fashion designer, artist and children's illustrator of the 1920s-1930s. She is credited with the "Peto Dress" fashion craze of the 1930s.
