Illustrated by Arthur Rackham with colored plates as well as with b&w drawings. Signed by the author, Christopher Morley, on the front free endpaper. Morley's story explores the tales of a dog named Gissing, who is searching for the origin of the color blue - which he believes is the key to understanding the mysteries of the universe. He meets colorful characters along the way, and his adventures take him through forests, deserts, and mountains, as he searches for the elusive answer.

Firm binding; rubbed corners and edges; light shelf wear to boards, with fading to edges; darkening to spine, with chafed ends; text block has minor chipping (doesn't affect the pages); ex libris paste-down to inside front cover; author's signature to ffep; a few pages with old water mark to top edge (does not affect the illustrations); light foxing to first few pages; toning to interior, which is otherwise clean and free of markings.
