Written by Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon. Buffon was a leading 18th-century French naturalist, mathematician, cosmologist, and encyclopédiste. His works influenced the next two generations of naturalists. This 1798 edition of Volume 2 is comprised of chapters on mammals (quadrupeds). The first 9 volumes of the original Naturalist set was devoted to quadrupeds. Volume 2 is specific to wild animals (such as wolves, deer, foxes, rodents, and more). Special emphasis is given to deer, weasels, and bats (with each having more plates devoted to them). Thirty-three (33) engraved illustrations total.
