Scarce first edition, very early printing from 1866 (first published in 1865) of "A Treatise on Astronomy" by Dr. Elias Loomis, in very well preserved condition. Full leather boards. The boards and binding are solid and tight save for some rubbing. 354 pp. The pages are crisp and clean save for a spot or two of foxing. Two additional pages of vintage magazine photographs of the Haley Comet and Saturn included at the end of the book (pasted in blank pages at end). Charts, tables, illustrations and 8 lovely full-page plates included throughout the text. Dr. Elias Loomis (August 7, 1811 - August 15, 1889) was the Mathematician and Astronomer responsible for understanding the discoveries of the Aurora Borealis through the publications of several papers. Loomis was a major contributor to the developing fields of astronomy and meteorology during the 19th century.
