THE OLD GARDEN — By Rose Terry Cooke, Illustrated by Harriet D. Andrews and Mary K. Talcott — 1st Edition / 1st Printing, 1888 — Striking Chromolithograph Floral Botanical Illustrations, Very Scarce Publisher: L. Prang & Co., Boston (1888)
Very scarce first edition from 1888 of "The Old Garden," by Rose Terry Cooke (From "Grandma's Garden" arranged by Kate Sanborn). Illustrated by Harriet D. Andrews and Mary K. Talcott. Brown pictorial pebbled boards, with cloth spine, illustrated with 8 plates and 6 striking full-page chromolithographs, printed by L. Prang, from artwork by Andrews and Talcott. The chromolithographic plates, with floral / botanical themes, are stunning — printed in vibrant colors, incorporating gold and silver backgrounds. The boards and fragile silk binding is solid and tight with some shelfwear mainly on the board corners. The text and the striking full-page chromolithographs are very fresh, bright, crisp and clean.
