THE BUTTERFLY BABIES' BOOK
Book Details + Condition: Rand McNally and Company (Chicago and New York). First Edition, 1914. Hardcover. 80 pages. Illustrated by M.T. (Penny) Ross, a popular artist in the early 1900s whose works also include "The Flower Babies' Book", "The Flower Children", "Bird Children", "Animal Children" and others. Written by fantasy author and poet Elizabeth Gordon. Her "Butterfly Babies' Book" is a collection of verse that anthropomorphize butterflies, giving them names and stories while providing information on the trees and flowers from which they eat and take shelter. The book ends with an area for the reader to notate when they see butterflies, and what butterflies they see - in this copy, that section remains blank. Firm binding; rubbed corners and edges; normal aging and wear to boards; interior is clean and free of markings. A charming and educational work on butterflies!
