Publisher: Cambridge: At the University Press, Cambridge (1901)
In well preserved condition. The boards and binding are solid and tight save for light shelfwear. The pages are crisp and clean. A rare gathering of 26 folktales from the Malay peninsula by the author. The tales contained in
this volume were taken down from the lips of the Malay people, in the
twilight of their own tropical jungle, during the progress of the Cambridge
Expedition of 1899 through the remote States of the Malay Peninsula recorded by
the author. The text is
illustrated with photographs and drawings of Malaysian settings and animals,
and the stories are accompanied by explanatory notes at the end of the text to
clarify points of local history, religion and language. Beautifully illustrated by F.H. Townsend.
