Full leather boards with raised bands and gilt to spine; marbled endpapers. 242 pages with frontis engraving, Tables and Index. Written in the original French. The book is composed of two speeches by author Johann Burckhardt Mencke (Menken), delivered in Leipzig. He highlights the methods by which the credulity of an audience can be abused, either in letters or in science. He introduced the term charlatanaria (i.e. charlatanism) into neo-Latin. Firm binding; lightly rubbed corners and edges, as well as a bit of rubbing to leather boards; remnants of paste-down to inside front board; very old water stain to edges of last few pages; interior is clean and free of markings, save faint old stamp to rear endpaper.
