A copy of The Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott 1851, with beautiful and highly intricate hand tooled leather boards, and detailed gilt fore-edge binding. Marbelized front and back inside boards. The binding and boards are solid, tight and in very good condition. Very light foxing on first page. A spot of foxing on title page. All other pages and engravings are crisp and clean. First blank page has script of previous owner's name, and next page has in pencil a price of $245. B/W pages 178-179, there is a fold-out page reserved for personal notes, which has been filled. Solid condition, very rare for a book of 164 years. Gilt from the top fore-edge has worn off. Engravings from paintings by the well known artist J.M.W. Turner are throughout the beautiful book.
