THE SNAKE by F. Inglis Powell — 1st/1st 1912 HC Cult of Kali Vampires Snake Cult — Very Rare Antique Gothic Horror
Publisher: John Lane The Bodley Head, London (1912)
Exceeding rare, first edition, first printing of THE SNAKE by F. Inglis Powell. The story brings a unique adaptation of 19th-century vampires from that of the transformation of human to vampire, to that of a snake draining the life force of its victim using the power of the Cult of Kali. The story is set in India during the 19th century. This was a traditional theme of the period in gothic horror — that of the vampiric snake. Bound in blindstamped cloth covers, with stamped gilt lettering on the spine. The book is in excellent condition. The boards and binding are solid and tight with very little shelf-wear. The hand-cut pages are crisp and clean and free of interior markings, save for former owner's signature and date 1912. A remarkably well preserved and scarce copy of gothic horror from a noted horror fiction writer, 100+ years ago...
