THE VIRGIN OF WAIKIKI: A Torrid Tragedy of the Tropics — Early Edition, 1933 HC/DJ — Illustrated by A.B. Butler, Jr.
Publisher: Henry M. Snyder, New York (1933)
Early edition from 1933 of THE VIRGIN OF WAIKIKI by Don Blanding, illustrated by A.B. Butler, Jr. Includes scarce and uncut dust jacket. The boards and binding are solid and tight, with minimal shelf-wear. The pages are crisp and clean, save for some natural browning to a portion of the inside boards, and a spot of foxing on the title page. The dust jacket is in very good condition save for small tears on the back. It remains uncut, with the original price still showing. Donald Benson Blanding (1894-1957) was an American journalist, speaker, author, and poet who sentimentalized warm climates and was sometimes described as "poet laureate of Hawaii." His less sentimental 1933 illustrated poem, The Virgin of Waikiki, is "a funny little tale of an old maid who paints herself up and goes out on the beach to find a man."
