Volume on astrology by occult author Christopher Cooke, a London solicitor, who wrote the 388-page document as a contemplation on the history, utility, and legal position of Astrology as a defense of what he considered a noble science. Subtitled "Being a popular sketch of celestial philosophy; with observations on the impolicy of the law which is supposed to prohibit the practice of astral science in the present age." Chapter titles include "Historical Sketch of Astrology," "Modern Astrology," "Planetary Influence," "Genethlialogy," "Horary Astrology," "Scientific Objections," and more. A firm and clean copy of a very scarce first edition, with rubbed corners and edges; light wear to boards, with some discoloration / darkening; age-toning to endpapers; interior is clean and free of markings.
