THE BRIDGE OF LIGHT: A MESSAGE FROM THE UNSEEN

Book Details + Condition: Book Details + Condition: Gay and Bird (London). First Edition, 1899. Scarce. Hardcover. 151 pages. Previously in the library of the Society of Psychical Research of London. Also includes owner's posthumous bookplate, that of Gerald Yorke (1901-1983), to the rear. An occult scholar and author, Yorke ("Frater Volo Intellegere") was Aleister Crowley's chief disciple for several years. He later played an important role in preserving Crowley's literary legacy, and authored and published works on the occult and Eastern religions. THE BRIDGE OF LIGHT is a collection of spirit-writings interspersed with fictional scenes to create a narrative on psychic experiences. From the author: "The contents of this book have been almost entirely gathered from original spirit-writings. Parts have been construed, and in some cases condensed, in order to make them suitable for public perusal. A few of the scenes in the story are necessarily purely imaginary...". A solid copy of a scarce work, with interesting provenance. Firm binding; some darkening to edges of covers and spine; slight lean to spine, with faded title; Library of the Society of Psychical Research of London bookplate on inside front board (with another bookplate underneath), as well as their printed shelf sticker to lower spine and blind seal on title page; interior is otherwise clean and free of markings.
