Title page in black and red, initials and shoulder notes in red. Bound in green vellum boards with gilt spine title. Translated by E. Allen Ashwin and Edited by Montague Summers. From the title page: Drawn from various trials of many of this sect om the district of Saint Oyan de Joux commonly known as Saint Claude in the county of Burgundy including the procedure necessary to a judge in trials for witchcraft. Henry Boguet [1550-1619] was a French lawyer and chief judge in St. Claude. First published in 1590, “An Examen of Witches or, Discours Sorciers” describes the witch trials conducted by Bogue, and also includes a chapter 'on the procedure necessary to a judge in the trials for witchcraft.' Tight binding; bumped corners; light shelfwear to vellum boards; fading to spine, with rubbed spots at bottom; text is clean and unmarked save small faded number on front endpaper.
