Volume by self-identified "Minister of the Gospel" George Beaumont on the fallacies and dangers of astrology. The work was the first of two notable new books arguing against astrology to be published in the early 19th century. The original edition of 1803 ran to only 40 pages, but was vastly expanded for this definitive second edition. It is subtitled "The principles of this science being plainly laid open, and their absurdity and wickedness clearly demonstrated, to which is added many anecdotes, shewing the folly, and also the mischievous tendency, of fortune-seeking, fortune-telling, and almanack predictions, likewise some eminent testimonies both in prose and in verse against astrology, etc." Printed text to front and back covers. Binding remains firm, with a bit of pulling to interior strings; darkening and discoloration to original paper covers; small corners of covers have been chipped / cut; small section of paper gone from spine covering; age-darkened pages; interior is clean and free of markings save ex libris stamp to inside front cover.
