Cadwallader's compilation of first-hand accounts, and her own analysis of the occult manifestations of the famous Fox Sisters. Sisters Kate, Margaret and Leah lived in Hydesville, NY, with their family and had a special "visitor." Strange noises alarmed everyone in the house until Kate and Maggie exclaimed, "Mr. Splitfoot, do as I do," and clapped their hands. Raps replied, heralding the birth of Spiritualism in the United States. They were an overnight sensation. Chapters include:
