THE MANNERS AND CUSTOMS OF THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS

Book Details + Condition: Complete 3-volume set of THE MANNERS AND CUSTOMS OF THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS. By Sir I. Gardner Wilkinson. The New (4th edition) and the first major revision of the author's magnum opus, which was first published in 1837-41. Revised and corrected by Samuel Birch, who prepared this edition from notes and manuscripts left by Wilkinson, plus his own research in Ancient Egypt. Three volumes, 8vo. Original green pebbled publisher's cloth, with gilt-decorated designs and title on spine and front board. Illustrated with 76 plates, including 3 color frontispieces — making a total of 9 full-color plates. Also includes large folding plates and tables (up to nearly 3 ft long, in black-and-white and color), and 643 woodcuts in text. Pagination: 510; 516; 528. In very good condition: bumped and rubbed corners; chafing to spine ends and edges; light shelfwear to boards; interior hinge cracked (not uncommon) but binding remains tight; text is clean and unmarked save periodic foxing, mainly on endpapers (and on title page & frontis of Volume I & II).
