THE STRANGE PAPERS OF DR. BLAYRE

Book Details + Condition: Arno Press (New York). First Edition thus, 1976. Part of Arno Press' hard-to-find "Supernatural & Occult Fiction" collection. Facsimile reprint of the original publication, originally released in 1932. Hardcover with purple boards and silver titling to front and spine. By Christopher Blayre, pseudonym for Edward Heron-Allen. 271 pages. Heron-Allen was an English polymath, writer, scientist and Persian scholar who translated the works of Omar Khayyam. These compiled stories were “presented as a series of manuscripts and documents submitted by the academics at the University of Cosmopoli these tales are parody pastiches that ridicule both the florid writing styles and histrionic content of some well known writers of supernatural stories. The titles of ech story hint at who is being ridiculed. There is also a good deal of satire about life in an academic setting”. [Pretty Sinister Books] Tales include:

- The Purple Sapphire
- The House of the Way to Hell
- Aalila
- The Mirror that Remembered
- Purpura Lapillus
- Mano Pantea
- The Thing that Smelt
- The Blue Cockroach
- The Man Who Killed the Jew
- The Demon
- The Book
- The Cosmic Dust
