Profusely illustrated with 176 panel drawings by author and soldier William de Jarnette Rutherfoord, while fighting the Japanese at Luzon, Philippines. The book, based on his personal diary as well as on official military records and interviews with other veterans, offers a detailed account of his experiences during World War II, specifically his time serving in the 25th Infantry Division on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. Rutherford served as a captain in the 25th Division, which was one of the first American units to land on Luzon in January 1945. The book chronicles the division's progress as they fought their way through the island, facing fierce resistance from Japanese forces along the way. Rutherford provides a vivid and personal account of the battles he fought in, as well as the relationships he formed with his fellow soldiers.
