Collection of writings by English animal rights and women's rights advocate Anna Kingsford, taken from her manuscripts and published posthumously by her collaborator Edward Maitland, himself a well-known humanitarian and writer. The book is divided into three sections: Illuminations; The Book of the Mysteries of God, Anciently Called The Greater Mysteries; and Concerning the Divine Image of The Vision of Adonal. Chapter titles include: The Three Veils Between Man and God; Inspiration and Prophesying; Revelation; Mystical Scriptures; The Nature, Origin and Potentialities of the Soul; The Devil and Devils; The Gods; Sin and Death; I AM; Mysteries of the Kingdoms of the Seven Spheres; and much more. These writings were said by the author to have come to her in dreams and trance-like states. This copy appears to be a limited first release from the British publisher George Redway, as no other copies or mentions of this edition appear to exist. Interior hinges cracked, but binding remains firm; rubbed corners and edges; wear to boards, with discoloration present; rear board appears to have been re-attached at some point; spine covering has been partially re-glued, with chipping to spine ends; interior is clean and free of markings, save owner name on title page.
