Pagination: 320pp; 304pp. Includes 20 etchings and 240 woodcuts by John Leech. Gilbert Abbott A'Beckett's books are a satirical view on the history of England, spanning from Julius Caesar to Queen Victoria. They are written with humor in mind, and filled with comedic illustrations by John Leech. The book is divided into several chapters, each covering a different period in English history. A'Beckett uses a humorous and satirical tone to describe the major events, characters, and politics of each era.

For both volumes: firm binding; rubbed corners and edges; wear to boards, with fading and discoloration present; slight lean; chafed and chipped spine ends, with fading present (larger chip to upper spine of Vol I); name to ffep; bookseller stamp to bottom of title pages; light foxing to first few pages, with intermittent heavy toning to areas of books; interiors are otherwise clean and free of markings.
