Treatise by acclaimed American baseball pitcher Christy Mathewson, who played 17 seasons with the New York Giants and was one of the first inductees into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The introduction of this book is written by newspaperman John N. Wheeler, and has black-and-white photographic illustrations throughout, including a frontispiece portrait of the author. Chapter titles include "Big League Pitchers and their Peculiarities," "Playing the Game from the Bench," "When the Teams are in Spring Training," "Jinxes and What they Mean to a Ball-Player," and more. Interior hinge cracked, but binding remains firm; rubbed corners and edges; light wear to boards, with some fading/discoloration; title page missing (book begins with Introduction); interior is clean and free of markings.
