FINAL NOTES ON WITCHCRAFT IN MASSACHUSETTS
Book Details + Condition: Published for the author (New York, NY). First Edition, 1885. Scarce. Original softcover pamphlet bound in hard boards. 120 pages. Volume by American historical writer and librarian, and authority on New England's witch-trials, George Henry Moore (1823-1892) on the witchcraft trials in Massachusetts during the 17th century. Subtitled, "A summary vindication of the laws and liberties concerning attainders with corruption of blood, escheats, forfeitures for crime, and pardon of offenders, in reply to the 'Reasons,' Etc. of Hon. Abner C. Goodell, Jr". This particular study focuses on the debate between Moore and another authority, Abner C. Goodell, as to whether or not an Act that is said to have been passed in 1711 - which would have reversed the attainders of several of those condemned for witchcraft in 1692 - actually became a law. Outer hard boards in very good condition; library bookplate to interior cover; original paper cover torn from binding, but present; some chipping and small tears present to the edges of a few pages (approx 5-10, as they were hand-cut); interior is clean and free of markings.
