THE HIEROGLYPHICS OF HARAPOLLO

Book Details + Condition: Pantheon Books for Bollingen Foundation, Inc. (New York). First Edition thus, 1950. Hardcover. Illustrated, 134 pages. Includes Appendix and Index of Symbols. This volume is the 23rd in a series of books sponsored by and published for the Bollingen Foundation. Translated by George Boas. The work is an anthology of nearly 200 “hieroglyphics,” or allegorical emblems, said to have been used by the Pharaonic scribes in describing natural and moral aspects of the world. Translated into Greek in 1505, it informed much of Western iconography from the 16th through the 19th centuries. In very good condition: lightly rubbed corners, edges and spine ends; interior is clean and free of markings.
