Edited by Lauron William de Laurence (1868 - 1936), renowned book pirate, plagiarist, and publisher of occult literature. Despite his eccentricities, de Laurence played an important part in the occult history of the US: he was a pioneer in selling occult books and supplies by mail order, and the cheap "Pow Wow" books and other books of simple magic which he published were well received. This volume of Hindu esotericism was claimed to be authored by "a Native Hindu of South India." The book is subtitled "South India Mysteries: Hindu Hypnograph Ancient Hindu Methods for Hindu Clairvoyance. Hindu Levitation (Raising the Human Body in the Air). Hindu Method of Burial Alive, (Suspended Animation). Spirit Sight at Will." Topics include hypnotism, personal magnetism, telepathy, treatment of illness, spirit power, and New Thought Movement interests. Photograph frontis of de Laurence. In very good condition, with firm binding; lightly rubbed corners; interior is clean and free of markings save owner's name (1914) to inside front board and staining to rear endpapers, due to presence of "Hindu Hypnograph" insert.
