This two-volume limited edition was condensed by Frazer from his third (and final) edition (1922). The thorough work describes primitive methods of worship, sex practices, rituals and festivals. Disproving the popular thought that primitive life was simple, Frazer demonstrates how early humans were surrounded with magic, taboos, and superstitions. Chapters include:

- The King of the Wood
- Sympathetic Magic
- Magic and Religion
- Magicians as Kings
- The Worship of Trees
- Dianus and Diana
- Tabooed Acts
- Oriental Religions in the West
- Osiris and the Sun
- Demeter and Persephone
- Eating the God
- Homoeopathic Magic
- The Transference of Evil
- Between Heaven and Earth
- And MUCH more.

Overall in very good condition - the books do not appear to have been read. Exterior original slipcase remains solid, with some discoloration and rubbing present.
