1886 ~ Days With Sir Roger De Coverley ~ Reprint from The Spectator, Illustrated by Hugh Thomson ~ 1st Edition

Publisher: MacMillan and Co., London (1886)

Rare, first edition of "Days with Sir Roger De Coverley," illustrated by Hugh Thomson in EXCELLENT CONDITION. Blue boards with gilt decorations and writing. The boards and binding are solid and tight with very little shelf-wear. The gilt fore-edge pages are crisp and clean, and the book has no interior markings. An overall excellent copy. "An English squire of Queen Anne's reign, Sir Roger exemplified the values of an old country gentleman, and was portrayed as lovable but somewhat ridiculous ('rather beloved than esteemed'), making his Tory politics seem harmless but silly. He was said to be the grandson of the man who invented the dance."
