Doctoral thesis by Maximilian Rudwin on occult themes in François-René de Chateaubriand's work, submitted to fulfill the requirements for a doctorate in Philosophy at Columbia University. The work is largely comprised of comparisons between Chateaubriand and Milton. Rudwin is well known for his books on the Devil / Satan figure. Inscribed and signed by the author: "A Monsieur Ed. Chaufin...avec l'homage de l'auteur". Very scarce, as there are no signed editions of any of Rudwin's work currently for sale. Tight binding; light wear to original covers; normal age toning present; interior is clean and free of markings, save author's inscription.
