PROBLEMS OF HUMANITY

Book Details + Condition: Vintage 1953 (second and revised) edition of Alice A. Bailey's PROBLEMS OF HUMANITY. Original blue cloth boards lettered in gilt on spine & front board. 221 pages. In very good condition: tight binding; light shelfwear to boards and rubbing to edges, corners and spine ends; interior is clean and unmarked. Six basic world problems, with many ramifications, continue to present humanity with opportunity for progress. A perspective on these problems is shown in Bailey's work. The spiritual factors and subjective causes are related to outer appearances and effects on the world scene. Contents include: Problem of Children in the World; Problem of Capital; Labor and Employment; Problem of Racial Minorities; Problem of the Churches; and more. Alice Bailey (1880-1947) was born in England, but moved to America in the early 20th century. Although she had a strong Christian upbringing, she was drawn to the Theosophical Society, joining its Esoteric Section - the secretive subgroup formed by Blavatsky for those who wanted to seriously pursue the study of the occult. Bailey eventually left the Theosophical Society, but it remained a strong influence, and she believed that the 'Spirit Guide' who had helped her since her 'teens was the same 'Koot Humi' who had communicated with the leading Theosophists. She also claimed contact with another Theosophical 'Master' 'Djwhal Khul - 'The Tibetan' who she said outlined an advanced system of esoteric teaching, which she described in many of the two dozen books she subsequently authored.
