Carryl serialized "Davy and the Goblin" in the St. Nicholas Magazine, from December 1884 - March 1885, before being published in 1885. It was one of the first literary imitations inspired by Lewis Carroll's books, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass (1871). The story is about 8-year-old Davy, who reads Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland next to the fireplace, when he begins to get sleepy. A Goblin appears in the fire, munching coals, and takes Davy on a voyage where he meets a variety of characters from fantasy and literature.
Firm binding; age and wear to boards, with scuffing present; rubbed corners and edges; normal toning to pages; a few areas of age spotting, otherwise clean and free of markings.
