THE DEVIL IN LEGEND AND LITERATURE

Book Details + Condition: Scarce first edition from 1931 on Satanism and demonology by Maximilian Rudwin, THE DEVIL IN LEGEND AND LITERATURE. Original black boards with title, etc in red on front and on spine. Illustrated with images of Satan, Hell, angels and witches. A wonderful, thorough work: "Rudwin approaches the lore of the Devil from many sides and many cultures, covering belief in the Devil, the names and forms of various Devils, the legend of Lilith, the Devil-compact in tradition as well as in literature, and the Devil in literature and poetry. Illustrations by Dührer, Doré, William Blake and others complement the text. Rudwin’s book is well-documented, with an unusually thorough thirty-five page analytical index which makes it very useful for reference." –Blog post by Douglas A. Anderson. The chapter on Lilith is of particular significance in relation to Satanic feminism. More chapters include: The Legend of Lucifer; Number of the Devils; Names of the Devils; Devil's Dominions; Journeys to Hell; Belief in the Devil; War for the World; Synagogue of Satan; and so much more. In very good condition: cracked interior hinge but binding remains tight; clear tape to inside binding; withdrawn & library stamp on title page; stamp on upper text block; page scuffed on rear blank endpaper and inside board; text is free of writing. Very scarce dust jacket is in very good condition and protected with a mylar plastic cover.
