A wonderful antique 110-year-old miniature book that weighs only 30 grams with solid, tight boards and binding. The crisp, clean pages are illustrated with a black and white frontispiece of Christ wearing a crown of thorns.
Bound in original full black leather with gilt title "Common Prayer" on spine, all edges gilt, with both original black front and rear endpapers (often missing) and with a lovely sterling silver cover.
The silver cover portrays five cherubs heads which are clearly defined with four of them having wings based on a work by Joshua Reynolds, Louis W. Bondy, Miniature Books page 167. The sterling cover was assayed and is hallmarked on the front cover, anchor for Birmingham, "f" for 1905, with the maker's mark L&S for Levi & Salamon.
Lovely inscription on the first blank page stating that this was a New Year's gift from a cousin and dated 1906.
