Large hardcovers measuring 8" x 11". Embossed decorative boards with gilt writing on spine and front. Total pagination: 2967 pages, with 456-page supplement over 4 volumes. Each book represents one-half volume of a 2-volume set, and all 4 volumes represent a complete set, with alphabetical listings from A-Z:

Volume I: AA - Chinese Empire
Volume II: Chinese Empire - Izzano
Volume III: Jaak - Port Vendres
Volume IV: Port William-Zywiecz

Illustrated with more than 800 wood engravings, with 12 hand-colored, depicting geographical "typical races of mankind", views, costumes, maps and plans. Compiled of articles by various authors, the volumes are subtitled "A general dictionary of geography, physical, political, statistical, and descriptive, with a supplement, bringing the geographical information down to the latest dates. Containing sections on various countries and locations." For all volumes: Firm binding; rubbed corners and edges; light wear to boards; sunning/fading to spines; periodic foxing; interior is otherwise clean and free of markings.
