First edition from 1917 of "Meow Jones, Belgian Refugee Cat: His Own True Tale" by Edward Branch Lyman. Beautifully illustrated by Julia Daniels. The boards and binding are solid and tight with only light shelf-wear and spots of minor fading to the back cover. The pages are crisp and clean save for previous owner's name on third page and minor spots of light foxing on a few of the book pages near the borders. The uncut dust jacket is in very good condition with chipping and light shelf-wear to the top spine end. A beautifully illustrated and sweet, timely story, in a rare first edition. The book was created as a fund raising campaign to send aid for the starving Belgian refugees during the World War I. The narrative is told by a cat (Meow Jones) in the first person about his adventures in war-torn Europe. It raised $2,000,000.00 for the Belgian Refugees.
