Book Details + Condition: Porter & Coates (Philadelphia). First Edition, 1877. Hardcover with blue boards and gilt decoration and lettering to front and spine. By Joseph A. Seiss. 346 pages, followed by reviews. The book thoroughly examines the Great Pyramid at Gizeh, the oldest and largest of the pyramids. According to Seiss, the information is contained in the measurements and proportions of the stone structure with its interior rooms and corridors, and in its orientation on the Earth and to the stars. The silent stones at Gizeh contain many mysteries, as do the stones of Stonehenge, Chartres Cathedral, and the Mayan temples of the Yucatan. Many of their secrets have been uncovered; more are waiting. "The Great Pyramid: A Miracle in Stone" is a classic which has influenced much of the subsequent work on the subject. Interior hinges cracked, but binding remains firm; rubbed corners and edges; wear to boards, with old water damage to front board (which does not bleed to interior); front & rear free endpapers missing; interior is clean and free of markings, save interesting mathematical notes to last page and blank page to rear.
