MORE UNCANNY STORIES ~ C. ARTHUR PEARSON LTD. ~ First Edition / First Printing, 1918, THE NOVEL MAGAZINE ~ Scarce Supernatural and Horror Short Stories

Publisher: C. Arthur Pearson Ltd., London (1918)

A rare collection of supernatural and horror stories collected from The Novel Magazine by C. Arthur Pearson Ltd., from 1918, in overall very good condition. The Novel Magazine was a major avenue for "up and coming" late 19th and early 20th century supernatural and horror writers as a venue to publish their works. The boards and binding are solid and tight, save for some minor fading along the spine and light general shelf-wear. The pages are crisp and clean save for some natural toning. Please see below for more information on this very scarce first edition work, and the stories therein. ALSO: Check out our other listing for the equally scarce UNCANNY STORIES (also a first edition).

Book Review and Description

Two collections of weird tales pulled from The Novel Magazine were published in 1916 and 1918 as Uncanny Stories and More Uncanny Stories. Both books include traditional hauntings, vengeful spirits, cursed objects, and aid from the afterlife. Settings vary-a chess game has deadly consequences, unearthly bagpipes predict death for a clan member, a WW1 submarine has a ghostly occupant, and a bestial transformation marks a killer. They are perfect for evening reading when shadows grow dense and nocturnal sounds resonate through the dusky stillness. The stories included are The Unknown Quantity, The Armless Man, The Tomtom Clue, The Case of Sir Alister Moeran, The Kiss, The Goth, The Last Ascent, The Terror by Night, The Tragedy at the Loup Noir, The Mailed Foot, The Pipers of Mallory, Visiting Rounds, The Jungle, The Haunted Chessmen, The Eighth Lamp, and Bill Dixon Stands By.
