THE PARADOXES OF THE HIGHEST SCIENCE

Book Details + Condition: Theosophical Publishing House (Adyar, India). Second edition, 1922. Very scarce. Hardcover. 172 pages. Volume by French esotericist Eliphas Levi, born Alphonse Louis, on his unique philosophy, which arose in studying and participating in the Kabbalah, magic, Freemasonry, and the Catholic church. This work is subtitled "In which the most advanced truths of occultism are for the first time revealed (in order to reconcile the future developments of science and philosophy with the eternal religion." Levi makes an appeal for a balance between science and religion by addressing seven paradoxical statements. This edition contains footnotes by the so-called "Master of the Wisdom" (most likely another well known Theosophist and occultist). Frontispiece shows a photograph of the author. Gray cloth binding with embossed text. A solid and clean copy of a very scarce work, with firm binding; rubbed corners and edges; light wear to boards; bookplate to inside front board; interior is clean and free of markings save faded pencilling to a handful of pages.
