Very rare copy of Charles Dickens' ("Boz") "The Pickwick Papers", Carleton's Royal Edition (first edition) from 1880. Full title: "The Posthumous Papers of The Pickwick Club, PROFUSELY ILLUSTRATED from drawings by: Gustave Dore, George Cruikshank, H.K. Browne (Phiz), R. Seymour, John Leech, G. Cattermole, F. Du Maurier, Richard Doyle, Marcus Stone, S.L. Fildes, F. Barnard, Ellen Edwards, Birket Foster, and Others."

 The book measures 12" x 10", and is 496 pages. Gorgeous full-page etchings still protected by tissue paper fill the tome, all by the top illustrators of the day. Smaller quarter-page and half-page illustrations pepper the book as well. The boards and binding are solid, tight and in very good condition save shelf-wear to the spine ends and bumped corners. The pages are crisp and clean save sporadic spots of foxing along some of the page borders. A very rare and beautiful find.
