Book Details + Condition: The de Laurence Company (Chicago), 1908. Red cloth with gilt and black designs and title, etc. to spine and upper board. Illustrated with b&w photographs. 261 pages, with Index. By Lauron William de Laurence (1868 - 1936), renowned book pirate, plagiarist, and publisher of occult literature. While this volume is similar to De Laurence's "Hypnotism, A Complete System of Method Application and Use" (1900) it is a separate work, and longer. De Laurence was notorious for taking other people's works and reissuing them under his own name (sometimes re-titling them in the process, as he did here). Despite his eccentricities, de Laurence played an important part in the occult history of the US: he was a pioneer in selling occult books and supplies by mail order, and the cheap "Pow Wow" books and other books of simple magic which he published were well received. An overall firm and clean copy of an increasingly scarce edition: interior hinge cracked but binding remains firm; normal wear to boards; rubbed corners and edges; toned endpapers and normal age-toning to pages; interior is clean and free of markings.
