Book Details + Condition: Second edition from 1987 of SECRET SYMBOLS OF THE ROSICRUCIANS OF THE 16th AND 17th CENTURIES. An oversized softcover work — folio size (17” x 11”). Original off-white wrappers, b&w illustrations and diagrams (several taking up the entirety of the pages). The second AMORC edition of this facsimile of the 1939 "Popular Edition" published by Rider and Aries Press in 1939, following the deluxe edition of 1935. This was the first complete English language translation of the first two parts of 'Geheime Figuren der Rosenkreuzer, aus dem 16ten und 17ten Jahrhundert' (also titled 'Die Lehren der Rosenkreuzer, aus dem 16ten und 17ten Jahrhundert') published in Altona (Germany) in three parts, in 1785, 1788, and the third without date. According to the Foreword to the present volume, a part of the text of the 'Geheime Figuren der Rosenkreuzer' was published in Franz Hartmann's 'Cosmology' in 1888, but "only 19 pages [of the Hartmann edition] are translation, representing about 5 of the Altona book." The texts are preceded by a short Preface by H. Spencer Lewis, and an anonymous Foreword and Bibliography, most likely compiled by the editor and translator, George Engelke. Minor wear to covers; tight binding; interior is clean and free of marking — overall a very good copy of a book seldom seen in nice condition, due to its large size.
