Book Details + Condition: Very scarce second edition of "Somnolism and Psycheism; Or, The Science of the Soul and The Phenomena Of Nervation, as Revealed by Vital Magnetism or Mesmerism, Considered Physiologically and Philosophically: With Notes of Mesmeric and Psychical Experience." Revised and enlarged. Hardcover octavo with original publisher's blind decorated brown cloth boards, gilt-lettered on spine and front board. Two beautiful fold-out plates at rear with anatomical engravings. The
book is drawn from two lectures on Mesmerism and Clairvoyance that were
originally delivered in 1848 in the Temperence Hall of Bolton, England. They
were subsequently published, along with an added appendix, under slightly different
title in 1849. It sold well, leading to this new edition, which was enlarged,
rewritten, (partially) retitled, and illustrated — effectively a new work. From the collection of the Wisconsin Consistory Library. Pastedown on inside front board and library sticker on spine. Some shelfwear: Boards a bit rubbed and darkened / faded; corners and spine
ends bumped; old repair to
upper spine; page edges darkened, a bit of scattered
foxing — overall a solid and unmarked
copy in good condition. An extremely scarce tome.
