Full title: "SONGS OF THE WILDERNESS: Being a Collection of Poems, Written in Some Different Parts of the Territory of the Hudson's Bay Company, and in the Wilds of Canada, on the Route to that Territory in the Spring and Summer of 1844; Interspersed with Some Illustrative Notes by George J. Mountain The Lord Bishop of Montreal." Very rare poetry book written in the unexplored territories of Canada, through the travels with the Hudson Bay Company in the Spring and Summer of 1844. First edition, first printing by The Lord Bishop of Montreal, George J. Mountain. The contents are direct copies from his journal, showing editorial corrections and cross-outs by pen in the text before going to the publisher for final first printing.

In well preserved condition, the boards and binding are solid and tight with little shelf-wear. The pages and engravings are crisp and clean save for a random smudge or spot of foxing. All illustrations have their original protective tissue papers. A beautiful and fascinating book from 1846 exploring the Canadian wilderness through images and poetry. A rare volume, including editorial corrections!
