Vastly important and influential treatise by English occultist Mary Anne Atwood on spiritual alchemy and hermetic mystery, first published in 1850, at the request of her father, who shared the author's interests in hermeticism and spirituality. However, when he read it upon publication, and discovering it revealed some hermetic secrets, he bought up the remaining copies and burned them. The book is subtitled, "with a dissertation on the more celebrated of the alchemical philosophies being an attempt towards the recovery of the ancient experiment of nature". This edition features a frontispiece black and white photograph of the author. In very good condition, with firm binding and a clean interior; book doesn't appear to have been read.
