Brief history of The Annual: "The first 205 issues of 'Modern Astrology' were edited by Alan
Leo from August 1895 to December 1912. The first two (of four) issues of 'The Astrologer's Annual',
a short-lived publication that was issued instead of 'Modern Astrology' in
December 1905, 1906, 1907 and 1908 only.... [T]his particular publication is extraordinarily
difficult to source, since it is not included in the typical bound volumes of
'Modern Astrology' magazine." [D. Houlding] In these bound volumes, Alan Leo is never referenced by name — only as "The Editor." Wonderful topics covered in the 1906 edition include: The Circle of the Zodiac (Frank J. Merry); The Horoscope in the Hand (Bessie Leo); Astrology and Astrologers (Heinrich Daath); What Is An Occultist?; and more. Per the Editor's Foreword: This is the first copy of THE ASTROLOGER'S ANNUAL, although it appears as the one hundred an ninety-fifth monthly issue of the "Astrologers' Magazine" — now known as MODERN ASTROLOGY — which has regularly appeared on the 27th of each month for over 15 years.... Any such periodical devoted to a special subject must necessarily have only a limited circulation, and cannot be expected to have a sale of hundreds of thousands of copies....
